💦 Water Safety Week at Wentworth 💦
It has been a fantastic Water Safety Week at school, with the children taking part in a range of activities designed to help them stay safe in and around water.
Over the course of the week, our pupils had the opportunity to put their learning into practice during their swimming lessons. The children wore everyday clothes over their swimming costumes and took part in a range of water survival activities, helping them to understand how different it feels to be in the water when fully clothed. They practised important self-rescue skills and learned techniques that could help keep them safe in an emergency - all of them demonstrating great enthusiasm, resilience and maturity throughout.
Yesterday, the school was awash with bright colours for our special non-uniform day, helping the children learn that wearing vibrant clothing can make it much easier to be spotted if someone falls into a lake, river or other body of water.
It was a sea of colour during both KS1 and KS2 assemblies where we were visited by a member of the RNLI Water Safety and Education team.
During the assemblies, our visitor Emrys, shared some incredibly important water safety messages with the children. They were fascinated by the exciting video footage of RNLI lifeboats in action and listened brilliantly throughout. The children were very engaged and asked so many thoughtful, sensible questions and showed a genuine interest in learning how to stay safe around water.
A huge thank you to the RNLI for taking the time to visit us and to our swimming instructors for supporting this important learning. We are incredibly proud of how enthusiastically our children have embraced Water Safety Week and the valuable, potentially life-saving lessons they have learned along the way.
