On Thursday 15th October 2026, two of our pupils, Grace in Year 6 and Alexa in Year 5, had the exciting opportunity to visit the Houses of Parliament as part the Sir David Amess Children’s Parliament.  Both girls were elected as Child MPs by their fellow members of our School Council, representing our school at this special national event alongside children from across the country.

After enjoying photo opportunities outside the iconic Houses of Parliament, the children were shown into the House of Commons, where they took part in a national debate focusing on the rights of children with disabilities in education. Those wishing to contribute to the debate took their seats in the front rows and eagerly tried to catch the Speaker’s eye by enthusiastically “bobbing” up and down!

In the House of Commons, MPs traditionally “bob” up and down in their seats to catch the Speaker’s attention when they wish to speak in a debate. It is an informal but well-known parliamentary tradition, which the girls had the chance to experience for themselves!

Grace had prepared a thoughtful speech for the debate. Unfortunately, with so many children keen to contribute, she was unable to speak on the day. However, we are delighted to share a copy of her speech, which reflects the importance of ensuring that every child has the support and opportunities they need to thrive in education.

We are incredibly proud of both Grace and Alexa for representing our school so beautifully. They embraced this fantastic opportunity to have their voices heard, learn more about democracy and experience Parliament in action.

Well done, girls!
