Tesco Bags of Help

Sunday 4th, November 2018

Wentworth are once again excited to have been selected to take part in Tesco Bags of Help fundraising scheme. Please read our application details below and encourage all friends and family to vote when shopping at Tesco. Thank you.

At Wentworth Primary school we believe that every young person should experience the world beyond the classroom as an essential part of learning and personal development, whatever their age, ability or circumstances. With our new outside learning environment, we would aim to promote learning through exploration and discovery allowing all children a chance to build on their knowledge and understanding through practical activities. Children will be encouraged to take measured risks, to build confidence and independence.

Childhoods are dramatically changing, with fewer opportunities to spend time outdoors. Research shows that this loss of exposure to the natural environment can have negative long-term consequences. Establishing an outdoor learning hub would allow teachers to plan for and deliver exciting activities which have real life contexts for our children. As a school we encourage parents and carers to take an active role in their child’s education and would aim to regularly invite them into to our new outside learning environment to share in their child’s learning and achievements. We would hope parents and carers would gain the confidence and skills whilst visiting us to encourage their child to explore and play in their own natural settings.

We would like for the area to include a den making area, a functioning fire pit, wigwams, hammocks and covered spaces for children to access the area in all weathers.
